The Greater Peterborough Area consists of a growing urban centre, the City of Peterborough, surrounded by a strong rural community. With a total population of 140,000, the region is home to several towns, villages and hamlets that not only add charm, but also economic stability to the area. The diverse geography of the Peterborough region allows for rich farm land, an expanding transportation system, a booming tourism industry and a strong manufacturing base. The region is proud of our diverse economy, which allows for potential growth in many sectors.

Community Profile

Community Development

The GPA EDC is dedicated to helping our rural communities remain healthy and vibrant, allowing residents the same growth opportunities as those who reside in urban areas. The focus is on the economic, social, cultural, environmental, educational, and community development.

We play a supportive role in community-based initiatives by helping rural communities and businesses learn how to access opportunities in many areas including new technologies, skills training and job creation, multiculturalism and growth/revitalization. The GPA EDC works with many partners including the Workforce Development Board, the New Canadians Centre and the Rural Ontario Institute.
