[PETERBOROUGH]  The Board of Directors of the Greater Peterborough Area Economic Development Corporation (GPA EDC) held a Community Strategic Planning Session and Open House today. The purpose of the event was to allow the public an opportunity to provide input into the GPA EDC’s next five year Strategic Plan.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the GPA EDC’s office at 210 Wolfe Street was transformed into a tradeshow style environment where each of the corporation’s four areas of focus (Tourism, Small Business & Manufacturing, Agriculture & Rural Development and Innovation) had a designated area to display information and meet with attendees. The public was made aware of the event through Public Service Announcements, newspaper advertisements, emailed invitations and posters.

The Board of Directors is responsible for bringing community and public input to the corporation on a regular basis and the idea behind hosting this event was to reach out and give the opportunity for a broader public opinion to be heard.

“Economic development is an evolving process and it is critically important to have a strong framework in place as a map for growth,” stated David Fell, Board Chair, GPA EDC. “The objective of the plan is to set higher goals for standard of living and quality of life in the region.”
